Congratulations to the
2008/2009 Boys U17 Storm Team and Coach Fitz Sinclair for winning the
2009 Disney Cup International Youth Soccer
Tournament. As a result of this win, the team moved up 27 positions in the
Florida rankings on
gotsoccer.com and now has a Florida state ranking of 11, and moved up 443 positions in the National ranking to a national rank of 265. Below is the email announcement received by the Disney Tournament Director. Note the photo of the players (4th down) in the email below is a photo of two
Storm players (Anthony Panchana and Junior Montano) celebrating a
Storm goal. Attached is a photo of the team following their victory
(not shown are Jose Alonso-Piche,
Marvin Miller, Junior Montano, and Cameron Moyle).
The
Storm started the tournament off with a bang with a 5-2 victory over Chivas F.B. Chivas Houston (TX), continued to make their name at the tournament with an 8-0 victory over Eastside United FC (Canada), next beat RC Rage Kent's Krew (NY) with a 2-0 victory and then secured their position in the final championship game with a 2-1 victory over the Texas State Semi-Finalist team, the Tigres TYSA-92 (TX). The
Storm's victory during the championship game on July 19, 2009 against Leg-A-Z Gainesville Caimes (FL) was won 2-1 in overtime with the
Storm having to play one man short. The
Storm put on a tremendous display of team work and put on a stellar soccer performance, both offensively and defensively.
The team will next compete Labor Day weekend as the Boys U18 Team at the 2009 Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament presented by Chelsea Football Club in order to help secure a place at the Disney's Soccer Showcase in December, which is a Premier Elite Tournament that is ranked #6 in the national tournament rankings.
